She immediately began scanning through the information she knew on dogs. There wasn't a WHOLE lot; she didn't really like animals. But she knew that lookng it in the eye was bad, so she looked away. And, no matter how much it hurt her pride, she knelt to the ground and tried to appear submissive.

She opened her mouth to gasp but stopped, not wanting to provoke the creature. Slowly and carefully, still looking away, she stretched her hand out in front of the dog.

The dog sniffed her hand curiously. It began to wag it's tail, appearing to smile at Para,

She carefully stroked it slightly, as she had seen others do. Most animals seemed to like that. She hoped this one did.

The dog responded by wagging it's tail and shoving it's snout under her hand to be pet. Suddenly, a young girl appeared. "Puppy!" She squealed in delight, clapping her hands. The dog whirled around a barked angrily and began to chase the girl, who screamed and ran away.

Her heart pounded in her chest. It worked. She smiled softly to herself before saying in the same, harsh voice, "good boy. Now stay."

The dog whined submissively. Then the room, mirrors, and reflections faded away. Para was now sitting on a bus, across from a scarred man reading a newspaper. He looked at Para and showed her the newspaper, bearing the headline 'Brutal Murderer Finally Apprehended'. "Do you know this man?" He asked in a rough voice. Para had the feeling that she did indeed know the man, but also had the feeling that something terrible would happen if she told.

"No," she said immediately, trying to sound casual. It was the logical thing to do. This man would certainly do something bad to her if he knew she knew the 'murderer', and that was CLEARLY not a good thing, so why would she tell him?

He glared at her. "Are you sure?" He demanded suspiciously. Lowering his voice, he added, "if you did, you could save me."

Save him? No offense dude, but I'd rather save myself. "Sorry, I don't know him," she insisted.
