Ana, as leader of Erudite, gave a small speech before the ceremony began. Jennifer, leader of Abnegation, then came up to begin calling out names of children who would be choosing. She looked down at a small list in her hand and called out the first name on it. "Alice Wonders." To her right were 5 large bowls. Each held a different thing: soil for Amity, water for Erudite, glass for Candor, gray stones for Abnegation, and burning coals for Dauntless. On a small table was a perfectly polished knife, never been used. Underneath the table, in a box hidden by the cloth spread over the table, were dozens of other knives.

Alice Wonders jumped at the mention of her name. As a child, she had never been first in things because of her last name. She didn't necessarily like it now. She walked up towards the 5 bowls that all held different meanings. As Alice gripped the knife to cut her hand, she squeezed her eyes shut and the blade slid against her skin. Alright, she thought, that wasn't so bad. But her part was just beginning. She walked around all of the bowls as the blood was kept warm in her hand. Alice was an Amity but her test had told her otherwise. You should stick to your home, one half of her brain told her. But the test is usually right, another half said. But your family will miss you. But is it really up to them? You were born into Amity. But is that where you belong? As that question pounded in her head, she felt the blood slipping into one certain bowl. She was now a Candor.

"Candor," Jennifer said, nodding to Alice. "Kayla Unatelli." Kayla walked quickly up to the stage, picked up the knife nervously, and quickly drew it across her hand. She winced. Kayla walked carefully over to the bowl of soil and allowed her blood to drip in. "Amity," Jennifer announced. "Clair Primmens." Clair gasped softly and walked up. She picked up the knife and pulled it carefully across her shaking hand. Blood pooled in her palm and she brought it over one bowl. She closed her eyes as her blood dripped into the water. "Erudite." Clair let out a sigh of relief as she walked off the stage as fast as she could (without seeming rude). "April Nightshade."

April walked quietly up to the stand, already sure of her decision. She would leave her faction, a home where she had never belonged, to find a place she would fit in. April took the knife and carefully cut her hand just enough that a small amount of blood gathered in her palm. She smiled as she let her blood fall onto the coals, now free of the restrictions of Abnegation and free to be Dauntless.

"Dauntless." After a moment of applause, she said the next name. "Para Lines."
Para stepped forward casually, lifted the knife, cut herself without hesitating, and dripped her blood into the water.
"Erudite." Another moment later, she said, "Jane Lanacrest."

Jane got up and walked to the sage, her mind racing with Erudite, Erudite, Erudite, Erudite. But her heart was racing slower, but more intense with Abnegation, Abnegation. As it usually does, the heart is listened to before the mind. Her blood sizzled as the gray stones were chosen.

"Analise Islor."
Analise took a deep breath. Oh, what to choose? She had thought about it all night, but she still had no idea. As she walked up to the stage, her hands shaking, she felt as if another person was controlling her movements as her hands grabbed a knife and drew it across her palm quickly, wincing slightly as a bit of blood pooled in her hand. Her eyes flicked between three bowls: the gray stones, the sizzling coals, the dark soil. Thoughts fluttered through her head. In Abnegation, she would be trained to think of others before herself, and would live a hard life with all her luxuries given away. Though she didn't hate the idea of giving to others, her previous 16 years of life in Abnegation had shown her that while it felt good, it was also dreadfully boring. She didn't want to be bored for the rest of her life: besides, she didn't belong there. The aptitude test had told her that. But the aptitude test still didn't make her decision any easier, it had still left her with two possible choices. Amity or Dauntless. Opposites, yet either one would work for her. How could that be? She shook the question away and continued her analysis. In Dauntless, she would be trained to face her fears, to be brave, but also to fight, maybe even to kill. She had never been a particularly violent girl... In Amity, she would be trained to farm, sing, to maintain peace. While she wasn't violent, she still wasn't entirely peaceful either... she tended to rebel. After what seemed like hours of thought, but had probably just been seconds, she thrust her hand out and dripped her blood into the bowl. She heard a few faint gasps, but they were muffled by her nervousness. She then lifted her head, proud of her decision, as she walked down to join her new faction. She was welcome here. This was where she belonged. Amity.
"Amity." Then, a moment later, "Jesabelle Harkens."
Jesabelle, normally overflowing with confidence, was shaking slightly as she walked up to the stage. She took the knife and carefully cut herself, resisting the strong urge to swear as she did so. Let's just say it did NOT feel good. She walked over to the bowl of glass, no hesitation, and dripped her blood onto the jagged, clear pieces, then walked away quickly, reclaiming her seat beside her parents. Her dad grinned at her. "Good choice," he murmured, and her mother nodded in agreement.
"Candor." Then, "Conner Harkens."

Conner stood up out of his chair and walked calmly and certain up to the stage. Taking the knife, he sliced his hand and only winced at the pain. It wasn't as bad as what was to come. Unlike his sister, he didn't have a decision. He had lived in Candor but according to the Aptitude Test, he didn't belong there. He had been bullied his whole life, by his sister, his parents. No one seemed to accept him. He tried, oh he tried his hardest to fit in but no one thought he was. Conner needed to be free from the restraints of Candor but the ghosts of his parents would haunt him forever. Although he was nervous, his decision was already made the minute he left that small chair in that small room and heard that small word that shook his brain. He was Erudite, through and through. His blood dropped and he closed his eyes.

"Erudite," she announced.
Jesabelle's eyebrows shot up. Her brother was switching? She never would have guessed it. He seemed moderately happy. She suddenly felt vaguely afraid. She would have to go through initiation alone. Jesabelle had always thought her brother was annoying, but she now realized she would miss him. She would actually miss annoying, stuck up Conner. Wow. She caught her brother's eye and gave him a nod, smiling. She hoped he couldn't see the tears welling up in her eyes from over there.
"Sophia Gartello."

Conner slowly nodded back towards his sister before turning his head away. Though they had never seen eye to eye, he hoped to see her again.
Sophia got out of her chair and gulped, heading towards the stage. Oh the things to choose, she thought. Sophia had gotten two test results. The aptitude test was supposed to guide your decision, but she only felt more confused. Her blood was warm in her hand after she cut herself. Soil or gray stones. She would be fine in both. So she left it up to her hand to decide. Her eyes closed and she left her fingers open...the soil darkened with the color of Sophia's blood.

"Amity."
"Catherine Eparis."

Catherine walked up to the stand, light brown hair swinging slightly on her back and her blue dress swaying with it, confident in appearance, but having a panic attack on the inside. She had though she knew what she would choose, but that had been before her aptitude test. Now, the only thing she could think of was 'Divergent'. She accepted a knife and carefully cut her hand, not even feeling pain because of the adrenaline, and a small amount of blood pooled in her palm as she closed her fist, holding the blood back. Erudite or Dauntless? She though for a moment, moving her hand toward Erudite, her birth faction. A faction she already lived and thrived in. She closed her eyes and then moved her hand to Dauntless, thinking that with the intellect of the Erudite, there would be no way her Divergence would go unnoticed. But she was an Erudite too. She was smart enough to conceal her secret. But am I really Erudite? The aptitude test says I'm only half Erudite said a little voice in her head. Catherine's hand hovered over the Erudite bowl and she slowly released the blood from her hand. 'If I'm part Erudite, I can be smart enough to hide Divergence,' she decided in her mind as her blood fell, confirming her an Erudite.

"Erudite," she announced, followed shortly by "Clara Clyre."
Clara popped up, quickly flashing her parents a nervous smile as she walked over to the stage. She quickly grabbed the knife, her heart pounding in her chest, and sliced open her hand. She frowned slightly at the sight of her own red blood. It made her sort of queasy, blood. She could never be in Dauntless. She heard that they beat each other until the chasm flowed red with blood. Probably just a rumor, but still. Too violent for her taste. She allowed her blood to drip onto the soil, turning her head slightly so she wouldn't have to watch, though out of the corner of her eye, she could still see the little ball of red soaked up by the brown earth. She smiled as she heard the name of her faction.
"Amity."
Clara quickly shuffled back to her seat.
"Gabrielle Chase."

Gabrielle walked/skipped up to the stage. She smiled but frowned at the knife and the sight of her blood as she gently cut her hand. She knew what she wanted. She allowed her blood to drio into the Amity bowl.

"Amity. Justin Case."
Justin walked up calmly, cut his hand with a straight face, and let his blood drip into a bowl.
"Dauntless. Justice Case."
Justice went up quickly, sliced her hand open with a wince, and quickly squeezed the blood into a bowl.
"Amity. Kyla Brayevern.
Kyla went up quickly, grabbed the knife, and cut her hand. She let out a nervous, shaky breath as she let her blood to drip onto the sizzling coals.
"Dauntless." And with that, the choosing ceremony was over. "Thank you for coming, everyone. The choosing ceremony has ended, so please continue to your faction's compound. "
