Lilypaw took a deep breath and carefully began to climb the tree. She stepped on a small branch and it snapped beneath her. The squirrel looked up, saw her, and raced up, jumping a few trees away. She climbed back down to Ravenstar, her head hanging.

Ravenstar shrugged. "I was actually quite impressed with how you caught the mouse," she mewed quietly as she spotted a bird in a tree nearby. "Watch me," she instructed. She crouched and slithered silently through the grass until she neared the base of the tree. She carefully leaped up, taking a moment to find branches that would support her. She crouched on a branch just below the unaware bird and leaped, rustling the branches a bit but fell to the ground with the bird in her jaws and she padded back to Lilypaw. "Just try climbing that tree," she instructed after dropping her prey, gesturing to a tall tree with a lot of branches

She scaled the tree quickly this time, testing each branch lightly with her paw before putting all of her weight on it.

Ravenstar nodded her approval and bounded easily into the tree next to the one Lilypaw was in. "Try jumping from tree to tree," she said, gesturing for Lilypaw to come join her on a sturdy branch that could certainly hold two cats.

She leaped across the gap between her branch and Ravenstar's branch, wobbling a bit on the landing but keeping upright by sinking her claws into the bark.

"Climb down," Ravenstar instructed, leaping down carefully to wait at the base of the tree

She carefully made her way down pretty quickly, but paused every few seconds to locate where she would place her next few steps. Once she was only a few tail lengths above the ground, she jumped down, gracefully landing in front of the leader.

Ravenstar nodded. "Very good," she said quietly. Suddenly she stiffed and flicked her ears toward a tall tree with a bird in it, chirping loudly. She looked at Lilypaw and gestured for the medic apprentice to go ahead

She swiftly crept up the tree, testing each branch for a millisecond before placing her weight on it. She was very close to the bird when it fluttered its wings a few times, about to fly away. Not because it knew Lilypaw was there, just because it was bored or something. Lilypaw jumped at it just as it took off, killing it midair before falling back down to the branch above her previous one. One paw slipped briefly, as she hadn't been able to test the branch, therfore not knowing it was a bit slippery from a bit of rain earlier. She quickly positioned her paw so that a small stub on the tree kept her froom sliding back down and, just to be safe, she dug her claws in. Once she knew she was stable enough to climb down, she did, moving rather slowly. She had never descended a tree with a large bird in her mouth. Still, she made it down to the ground rather quickly, laying the bird gently at Ravenstar's feet after muttering a very soft thanks to StarClan.

Ravenstar grinned. "Excellent. That's all for hunting today. We'll take a break to eat and then gather herbs," she mewed, picking up a few pieces of prey and began to lead the way back to camp.

Her eyes sparkled at the sound of the word 'herbs'. She impatiently wondered why they had to eat first instead of starting right away, but then her stomach let out a ferocious rumble and she decided that eating first would probably be best.

Ravenstar smiled warmly and trotted back to camp

She followed the leader, needing to speed up to match the leader's pace. She silently cursed her short legs.

When the reached camp, Ravenstar dropped her prey on the pile of prey in the center of camp. She chose a squirrel for herself, seeing that at the moment there was plenty of food to go around.

She lay her prey on top of the pile as well, then plucked a young rabbit from the pile.
