The Artists
~History~
There was once a ginger tom named Vincent. Vincent was a kittypet, but he wasn't your average fat, lazy, stuck in a boring twoleg den all day kind of kittypet. His twolegs were different. They were artists. Vincent's owners created all sorts of miraculous things with paint, clay, all sorts of things. Vincent loved it. They let him help, putting paint on his paws and watching as he walked over paper, smearing the c colors around. All three of them, Vincent and his two owners, were happy. Until one day, Vincent's owners went out to buy more materials and they never came back. Vincent didn't know what happened: he thought, perhaps, that they had abandoned him. But they wouldn't do that. The next day, several twolegs in monsters with flashing lights on top came to his house. They began looking through all of Vincent's owners' stuff. Angry, he attacked one of them, which resulted in him being stuck in a weird box-like thing. They later put him in a van with other cats in boxes and sent him who knows where. The van stopped at one point, and Vincent took that chance to break free of the box and dash away right when a man opened the back of the van. He ran as far as he could until it was night, and he collapsed from exhaustion. In the morning, he found an abandoned mansion hidden away in the woods. He went inside, and found all of the beautiful things his twolegs had had and more: paints, clay, canvases, brushes, everything. It was incredible. He found some more cats in there, cats who also enjoyed those sorts of things, and they formed a group. The Artists.
~Beliefs~
The Artists believe in the Fallen Colors, a group of deceased cats that watch and guide them from above. Only healers and leaders can communicate with the Fallen Colors outside of their dreams. In a small abandoned hut near the mansion is a room full of spilled paint. The floor is covered in it, except for one platform at the front of the hut. To communicate with the Fallen Colors, one must simply touch the colors. The Fallen Colors will then bring them to a dreamworld where they will talk. Once the dream is over, whichever color is most easily distinguished on the fur of the cat who touched the paints symbolizes something: red is war/death, orange is joy, yellow is warmth, green is abundant growth, blue is sadness/water related things, purple is change in leader, pink is new cats, brown is nothing particularly significant, and black is total destruction. There is another way to communicate with the Fallen Colors, but only healers may use this method: the healer would find some clay or paint and canvas, and then close their eyes. The Fallen Colors would then lead their paws to paint/sculpt whatever it is they must know of.
~Territory~
The Artists live in a large abandoned mansion in a forest. The forest used to be part of a city called Portland long ago, but that was about 100 years ago, and most of the city has gone, and trees have grown in its place. Their territory is large, but slightly smaller than that of the main clans. The mansion is there camp. The first level is a large, open space, used for gatherings. There is another room on the first floor where the food is stored and eaten. There is a beautiful staircase leading up to the second level, where cats live. This level has about 50 rooms, 15 large and the rest smaller. The 14 large are used for each rank: One for the leader (with a balcony that goes out over the first level gathering place), one for the council, , one for the scholars, one for the queens and kits, one for the guards, one for the travelers, one for the painters, one for the sculptors, one for the painter apprentices, one for the sculptor apprentices, one for the talented, one for the talented apprentices, one for the faded, and one for the elders. The last large room is a private meeting room for the leader, high council, and scholars. The small rooms are occasionally given to larger families who the leader feels deserve them. The third level is the workplace. The workplace has three different rooms: the painting room, where painters work and train, the sculpting room, where sculptors work and train, and the talent room, where the talented work and train. The fourth and final level is the museum. The museum has three parts: the new gallery, the ancient gallery, and the private gallery. The new gallery is where all the pieces made by Artists go, the ancient gallery is where ancient, famous pieces go, such as pieces by Vincent Van Gogh (who is the favorite artist of almost every one of the Artists), Pablo Picasso, Michelangelo, and more. The private gallery is a gallery of all the leaders favorite pieces made by Artists (it is unheard of to have Ancient pieces in the private gallery- their exquisite beauty should be shared and used as examples for all). Very few cats are allowed to view this room: only high positions may enter, with the exception of cats whose pieces ended up in the private gallery. The only other significant landmarks of the territory are the Color Pool, which is the hut with the swirling paint mentioned under Beliefs, and several small streams, rivers, ponds, and lakes.
~Traits~
The Artists almost all love art. Those who don't are sort of just rejected, and often simply forced out of the community. Artists tend to be very intelligent, very deep, and very kind. This is not always the case, but these are the most common traits. Artists also have a special way of knowing their ranks: marks. Every 5 moons is Painting Day. This is when every cat gets their mark. A mark is 2-3 small lines of colored paint painted on a cat's forehead. The first line, on their right, indicates the rank. The second line, on their left, indicates their specialty. The colors for rank are: purple for leader, deep blue for deputy, light blue for council, deep green for scholar, light green for traveler, yellow for talented, mustard yellow for talented apprentices, orange for painters/sculptors, light orange for painter/sculptor apprentices, red for guards, and pink for elders. The colors for specialty are: yellow for painter, red for sculptor, orange for talented, and green for healer (only scholars may have this- occasionally talented may have a third stripe of green, but it is VERY rarely allowed- scholars do not need a specialty mark if they do not paint, sculpt, or heal- this is an option, but ONLY for scholars).
~Rules~
