ELITE 16
a group living in an enchanted castle
History
There was once a young man named Charles. He was adventurous, and loved to play chess. One day, he took a walk in the woods. He came across an old castle and stared at it in awe before turning to leave. Suddenly, the ghost of his late mother appeared. "My son," she said happily. "You have found the blessed castle of schaakspel." she said. Charles knew enough Dutch to know it was the Castle of Chess.
"But what is it?" he asked in wonder.
"It is a blessed place, and you have found it. You must start a group, for you will need help. No one will be able to find it but those with the power to," she said. "This is not a normal castle, nor normal woods. They are magical. And no one that has ever met you thus far that is still alive will remember you," she finished sadly. Then she disappeared, leaving a chessboard in her place.
Territory
The Elite 16 live in an old castle in enchanted woods. Normal people cannot find it, only those who know of it can.
Beliefs
The Elite 16 believe that when a person is killed by an enemy, they go to live as spirits in the sky. This group is called The Captured Pieces.
Traditions
Not a lot. When a position is taken anew, there is a ceremony to grant them access into the Elite 16. The person must be recommended.
When people move up in rank (ex: from low pawn to high pawn, from pawn to knight, from bishop to king) there is a ceremony.
When people die, anyone close to them takes a night of vigil.
When people are demoted, ceremony.
Ranks
♔ KING - In Chess: The main player. He can move one space in any direction. Once he is able to be killed, it is "Check". When he is surrounded and cannot escape being killed, it is "Checkmate" and the team surrounding the King wins. In the Elite 16: The ruler of the the Elite 16. He moves slowly and strategically, and usually doesn't fight. If he is conquered, power is passed to those who conquered him.

♕ QUEEN - In Chess: The second most important player. she can move in any direction, for as many spaces as she would like. When she is captured, the other team usually wins. In the Elite 16: The King's spouse. She is an excellent fighter and moves quickly, and is highly respected.

She is usually found in crisp black pants and a clean white shirt during work. In battle (and she does battle!) she wears pristine white armor and wields a short sword.
PERSONALITY
Avery is very kind and very, very intelligent. She is quite humble and fond of the queen. She is very modest, and doesn't look at royalty much.
HISTORY
Avery was born to a past knight and a commoner, and raised to be in the Elite 16. She has never gone into battle against a major enemy.
