Sarah pulled a bow and quiver off a rack and handed them to him. Then she drew her own bow and pegged the bullseye. "Like that," she said, smiling. She positioned his bow in the correct position and placed the arrow on the string. "You're right-handed?"

he shook his head. "left handed," he told her. the bow felt really awkward in his hand, as he was used to using the other one.

She flipped the bow the other way, moving his hands to the correct position.

he watched as she positioned the bow in his hands, trying not to wriggle. he was usually constantly active, and standing super still wasn't his favorite. oh well, e was going to learn this thing, so he was gonna relax. "Okay- now what?"

She stepped to the side and demonstrated drawing an arrow on her own bow, not releasing it but aiming at the target. She slowly moved the string back to its original position, not firing it. "You hold it with your non-dominant hand here," she tapped a place on his bow, "and draw the string here."

he placed his hands correctly and placed two of his fingers on the string where the arrow was knocked. "Now what?"

"Draw the arrow and aim at the target. Your hand should be pulled back almost to your shoulder, and you want the arrow to be aimed slightly higher than the bulls-eye to account for gravity, and slightly to one side, depending on what side you're standing on." She demonstrated on her own bow, hitting near the center. "It takes some practice and experimentation."

He nodded, and pulled back on the string, bringing it to his check. when he let loose, he was suprised by the force of the arrow and hid arm jerked, sending the arrow shooting into a tree. Way far from the target. he cussed.

Sarah smiled empathetically. "Like I said, it takes practice," she said, remembering her first time shooting a bow. "The first time I shot, I almost hit the bullseye. On the wrong target." She smiled to herself.

He decided to take the laugh-it-off path instead of his normal frustration. He grinned and nodded. "Nice," he commented. At least she hit the target.
