(it's fine!) Jack grinned slightly and sat on a large long that was conveniently just a few feet away from where they had been standing. He tore a few branches off and made a small pile in front of him. He then grabbed a few napkins (the Abnegation who had given him the bread also believed strongly in manners and hygiene) from his pocket and threw them on the pile. Now Jack took a small bottle from a hole hidden in the log and poured its contents on the sticks and napkins. He stuck a hand in a pocket hidden inside his jacket and a pulled out a small box. He opened it, took a match out, struck it against the side of the box, and threw it onto the pile. It instantly burst into flames and he scooted forwards, his hands hovering, palms down, over the flames. He looked back to the girls, his eyes inviting them to join him on the log.

Juliette tentatively sat down next to him. She stared at the fire, watching the way the flames moved.

Rose walked forward and sat on the log. "Thank you," she murmured with a small smile

He nodded and threw a few paper scraps into the small fire.

"So," Juliette started, taking a huge risk, "So what's your story?" she said, looking into Jack's eyes.

He looked right back at her, smiling slightly. He liked how she had the guts to ask. Normally, he would never share that, but she had asked. And she was nice. So... "I was born in Dauntless, my aptitude was Dauntless, and I chose Dauntless. But in initiation, the trainers were all jerks and the other initiates were even worse. I was the best in the group, and everyone was threatened by me and hated me. A few tried to kill me. It made me sick. So I left. Not out of fear, but because I felt that I could do better. And they couldn't control me, anyways. I know that's what they want, which is exactly why I didn't want to give them that power." He looked down at his empty hands for a moment before looking back at her. "What about you?"

Rose listened intently. Jack's story was quite similar to hers, although Dauntless instead of Erudite.

Juliette looked up. "I-I..." she paused. It was only fair to tell him, he had told her. She took a deep breath. " My aptitude test result was unclear, like others. Probably meant I was a Divergent. Am a Divergent. And like a good one, I should have picked a faction I don't belong in and stayed there. But on the day of the ceremony, I couldn't choose. Couldn't choose just one faction to live in my whole life that I would stay and be apart of. Something inside was telling me not to choose. So, I drew my blood, but didn't drop it. Instead, I held it in and said that I wasn't going to choose. And then I ran out of the building, down to my house, they couldn't catch me, even with all the people that they had. I grabbed all my stuff and I was gone. Disappeared, they probably think I left. But I'm still here, not knowing what to do with my life." she looked up. " That's why I avoid people, cause they could take me back to a place I don't belong. Besides," she looked far into the city, " no one would understand." (wow, looking back that was extremely cheesy sorry and can I even do that story line, is that ok?)

(umm... how about this: everyone, her included, thinks she's divergent because she is aware during simulations, but she's actually not divergent?)
Jack nodded, the firelight hitting his face so that he looked almost ominous.

Rose nodded to her

(ok, but 1: what do you mean by "aware during simulations" and 2: if she's not divergent, than what is she? Just factionless?) Juliette noticed the way the light was hitting Jack's face and she kind of liked it. The way the fire made his eyes light up and sort of sparkle to match the bright light of the moon....wait, what was she doing? She had never noticed these kinds of things on anyone. Juliette put her head down and tried not to notice anything else.

(it means she knows that it is a simulation, not real life- everyone else is programmed to think that the simulation is actually happening in real life. being aware during simulations is a symptom of being divergent, but there are some people who are aware during simulations and are NOT divergent- and even if she were divergent, she would still technically be factionless, so yes, she would just be factionless)
Jack looked over to Juliette as she put her head down, wondering why she had done so. He scolded himself. Why did he care? Those kinds of things had never really mattered to him before. He never cared why people did things. So why did he care now?

Rose sat quietly through the awkward moment, unsure of what to say.

(ok so maybe I don't know exactly what simulation is....) Juliette pulled her head back up to look at Rose. "Now it's you turn." she said, but then stopped herself thinking, Juliette what are you doing? She might not be comfortable enough to share with you, just shut up! But Juliette battled her thoughts and said quietly, "What's your...your...gosh I just don't know a better way to say this. What's your story?" with the tiniest half hearted laugh.
